The Nutritional Therapist Nutritional Therapists normally work in private practice. People who consult with a Nutritional Therapist are often self-referred and motivated because the medical profession has not been able to help them. Using scientific nutritional knowledge, Nutritional Therapists take the whole body into consideration and address the underlying causes of a problem, not just the symptoms. Nutritional Therapists provide nutritional advice and draw up nutritional programmes that are tailor-made to each individual's own unique requirements and biochemistry, encompassing diet, lifestyle changes and if necessary supplements in order to improve their health profile. |
The Nutritionist The Nutritionist is more likely to work in public health educating and promoting health and wellbeing, in the food and drinks industry developing products and consumer messages or in research and academia. Although qualified to give advice on healthy eating patterns, they do not formulate individualised programmes to address specific health issues. |
The Dietician The Dietician tends to work in a hospital and may specialise in personally chosen areas. They devise nutritional eating plans for patients to treat medical conditions, generally promote healthy food choices and good health. They are not permitted to recommend specific food brands and patients tend to be referred to a dietician by their GP’s or other health professionals.
