What is nutritional therapy?

Nutritional Therapy is a holistic and science-based complementary approach (often working alongside the medical profession) which can be used as a preventative tool against and help manage various health issues. It addresses the actual cause of the health problem rather than just treating the symptoms. Nutritional Therapy uses diet, lifestyle changes and if necessary supplements to encourage the body’s own mechanisms towards self-healing, through their interactions within the body. With intensive farming methods used these days and the abundance of ready made and fast foods available to buy, it is more difficult to obtain a well balanced diet than in past times.

Nutritional Therapists often work alongside other complementary healthcare professionals. There is not one specific diet that is ideal because each person has different needs and requirements based on their individual factors. This is why I work with you at your pace to ensure that you are happy with the changes that you decide upon rather than just tell you what to do. I believe this to be more beneficial in the long run.

So what happens next?

The consultation process

Before we can start the consultation process, you will be required to complete a comprehensive questionnaire covering current health, diet and lifestyle habits. In order to benefit fully from the initial consultation, you should return the questionnaire at least one week prior to your actual consultation.

The initial consultation

The initial consultation builds an important foundation for your specific health issues and usually last between 1 ¼ to 1 ½ hours.

At this consultation we will:

  • Create an analysis of your medical history, lifestyle and diet
  • Provide an explanation of your health issues and how your diet may be impacting on these specific issues or problems
  • Create a personalised nutritional program for you
  • Diet and lifestyle changes are negotiated with you to ensure they are achievable and sustainable for you.
  • Vitamin and mineral supplementation may be recommended to ensure that results are more attainable. However, we tailor these according to your budget.
  • It may be recommended that some bio

It is normally advisable to review your progress after 4-6 weeks with a follow-up consultation.

Follow up consultations

Follow up consultations are usually booked after the initial consultation so that we can discuss your progress. Follow up consultations usually last between 30 - 45 minutes and I recommend at least two, but this is not essential. It is important to bear in mind that your health symptoms that you want to rectify may take some time. This is because biochemical imbalances build up over time (even up to some years) and would therefore require time before they can be controlled.

Home and evening visits can be arranged prior to your consultation.
